SPMeta2/reSP Ideas & Feedback

Welcome to the SubPoint Solutions UserVoice!

Let us know what you would like to see in future versions of SPMeta2 and reSP projects.
We look forward to hearing from you!

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

    • Provide similar framework with Javascript code

I think it could be interesting to be able to use Javascript to deploy SharePoint artifacts in a similar we are used to do with SPMeta2.CSOM. SharePoint-Hosted apps will be very happy to be able to leverage this feature set.

      • Implement Site Collection Creation

I would like to see Site Collection Creation functionnality. For CSOM SharePoint Online, the following approach could be used http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21268629/creating-new-site-collection-in-office-365-from-an-app

        • Indexing fields

Could you please demo how to index a list field?

          • Implement a RetractModel or similar

I would like to see a Retraction-option from the solution so we can design applications that not only provision content, but also offers a way to retract it.

It needs to be secure enough that it doesn't accidentally delete anything when running a provisioning model etc.

              Hello Tobias,

Thanks for suggestion, that’s a valuable one.

Could you please provide more context and scope so that we would be able to plan iterations over this?

It’d be nice to prioritize what would be implemented in the first stage (a few really important artefacts/scenarios), what comes within the second iteration and so on. You might have some ideas about that, keen to hear your thoughts and start it off.

              Cheers!

            • Configuration of Metadata navigation settings for lists

Would be nice to be able to configure the naviation hierarchies and key filters for a list. (see List settings --> Metadata Navigation settings)
It requires the Metadata Navigation and Filtering feature to be active, but we can already to that.

As I can see, reSP is dedicated to full-trusted SharePoint solutions. How about programming for SharePoint Online?

                  Hello Alisher,

You are right, O365/CSOM support is coming along. It’s been in the roadmap for quite a time.

It would be nice to hear your suggestions so that we would be able to prioritize and implement important inspections early.

There is a reSP group in our Yammer network, so you can join and put some thoughts, and other people would have a chance to collaborate as well. Alternatively, you might create new suggestions here, at UserVoice. That’s up to you.

                • Provide a SPMeta2 Schema2Code Migration Wizard

It would be great to see a migration wizard for existing XML-based SharePoint artifacts. I think a Visual Studio Addin which recognizes existing artifact definitions within the project and converts the XML schema to C# classes would be highly valuable.

Another nice part is the smooth transition between these two concepts (XML and code), because you're still able to start with XML and simply have the ability to switch to code by automatically generating classes. At the latest when you have to maintain your artifacts you will appreciate the code-based concept of SPMeta2.

We have dozens of XML based definitions,…

                    • Create a data access layer for strongly typed CRUD

Following the Yammer conversation on this topic, I'd like to suggest creating a data access layer to support strongly typed operations on SharePoint lists.

What I imagine is that the model information already availalble in a project be used to generate entity classes which inherit from the default SharePoint objects like SPListItem, but feature stronly typed members.

Most simple example is that of a list, content type and fields. Let's say a MyList instance is configured to have a MyContentType content type which in its turn features a MyDateField field definition. In code, I'd want to be able to do…
